Feeling a bit bored and stuck in a rut?
Maybe you need to give your curiosity a bit of a wake-up call.
In this age of the internet there are so many things we can explore it’s hard to imagine anyone getting bored.
On the internet you can watch and listen to bacon sizzling or you can study rocket science.
And everything in between these extremes.
Maybe that’s the problem. Too many choices. We’re overwhelmed by choice.
But having all this information available means nothing unless we are curious enough to explore it.
Curiosity is the eagerness to explore, to investigate, to wonder.
Curiosity drives you to question some things you know or believe. You have an open mind and are keen to learn or unlearn. You don’t passively accept.
A curious person is not bored. There are always new ideas to examine. New things to delve into. New rabbit holes to go down.
Every single day, I’m curious about everything. Curiosity is finding answers to things.
The Boring Conference is a one-day event held annually since 2010.
A person lacking curiosity will just skip over the previous paragraph. Why would they be interested in an all-day conference that calls itself boring? They’ve got enough boring things in their life.
But, for a person who is curious, that paragraph will cause a lot of questions to pop into their head.
-
Who would want to go to The Boring Conference?
-
Why would anyone organise a conference and promote it as boring?
-
Do people actually pay to go to The Boring Conference?
-
How many people go?
-
What do they talk about all day?
With a little curiosity, even The Boring Conference becomes interesting.
Ah … curiosity. Without it life becomes very boring.
Be curious.
Richard.
